Sleep apnea is interacted with APOE to increase the risk of dementia Lead Investigator: Xiuhua Ding Institution : Western Kentucky University E-Mail : xiuhua.ding@wku.edu Proposal ID : 1246 Proposal Description: Studies show that APOE may be associated with sleep apnea, sleep duration in cognitive normal subjects. Other studies provide evidence that sleep apnea interacted with APOE has increased effect on the risk of dementia. So it is not clear whether sleep apnea is interacted with APOE e4 to increase the risk of dementia or it is an intermediate step in APOE- Alzheimer?s disease pathway. Our goals in the project are (1) To investigate the association between APOE and historical sleep apnea in cognitive normal subjects (2) To examine the association between APOE and incident sleep apnea in cognitive normal subjects (3) To examine whether APOE and historical sleep apnea are interacted on the risk of Alzheimer?s disease. (4) To examine whether APOE and incident sleep apnea are interacted on the risk of Alzheimer?s disease.
